Pressure Drop

You know you’ve released a good tune when over thirty years later, there have been over ten covers. Toots & The Maytals could hardly have envisaged this back in 1969 when the track was recorded.

What is frustating though is when another artist makes famous what was already an excellent track (as a thousand daggers dart towards The Specials). It’s not really their fault though that the YouTube puts them top of the ‘Pressure Drop’ search list and The Maytals fourth. Fourth! It’s a tough world out there.

Besides, The Clash’s interpretation of the tune adds more colour and character than The Specials’ offering. It takes it in a different direction with its driven guitars and breaks. But then again, it is The Clash. Just don’t forget where it all started. Toots & The Maytals.
