Alela Diane – Take Us Back

There’s no doubt that Alela Diane’s latest album didn’t create the same impact that her first two offerings did. The rustic psych-folk was substituted for a more accessible, studio sound. It’s not bad, but it’s just not Alela Diane.

Although ‘Tired Feet’ and ‘White As Diamonds’ were well-received and popular tracks, ‘Take Us Back’ is more comprehensive in illuminating Alela’s oaky resonance. While the guitar provides your typical folky acoustics, the violin and vocals weave in between each other like undulating leaves on a crisp autumn afternoon.

Let’s just hope she realises that the change in direction was too sharp and too sudden. Take us back Alela, take us back to the tops of crags and cliffs.
